Welcome to my world of copious feelings about ducks in purple costumes. I've copied and pasted this from a Plurk I did about it not long after I brought Darkwing to Ryslig....

The creator of Darkwing Duck, Tad Stones, made a point of never giving him One Solid Origin because he thought it was hysterical. For an RPer that is immensely frustrating.

I picked Clash Reunion as my jumping-off point, because that's the episode which actually carries through into present day stuff - the one where the first time he used the name Darkwing Duck was kicking Megavolt's butt at his high school prom... but I play that incident as a one-off, that he didn't actually go into Being An Hero for a while.

I headcanon that his parents were actually, secretly, Really Big SHUSH Agents, and they disappeared on a mission not long after said prom. He just thought they were businesspeople because they were always going abroad with suit bags! But when they disappeared, and never came back, and no one found the bodies, and everyone kept telling him to Just Let It Go, he decided to go looking. Cue the Batman Begins vibes, with him traveling the world looking for them. He figured they got kidnapped for money or something, but with every lead he chased, he found more hints of what they really did. (This is also where all his "lucky I learned X from Ridiculous Source Y" remarks come from: Tibetan yogis, contortionists, etc.)

By the time he comes back to St. Canard a little older and wiser and holding a bunch of random skillsets, his city's a dump and he's Not Happy About It. So he starts quietly using his meager inheritance/trust funds to build the Ratcatcher and the gas gun, and Darkwing Duck comes out for real. This, of course, catches SHUSH's attention, and J. Gander recruits him... without even knowing he's actually hiring his best agents' son, so of course, there's no way he could even TELL him.

Once the series starts in Darkly Dawns the Duck and Launchpad and Gosalyn show up, Darkwing has been Darkwing for so long that Drake Mallard is actually the other identity. (I have really strong feelings about that one and I love playing with it.) So the reason he can suddenly Have A House for Gos to move into is, of course, that he always had that house, it was his, her room is his old room.

I'm still building on this, especially now that he's in a setting where he has the time to start telling Gosalyn and other friends things, so any headcanon-referencing threads will be linked below as they're created.
